Description
Human male, age 29, receding brown hair, brown eyes, fair complexion, wears wire-framed glasses. Five foot seven, in decent but not great shape. Usually wears jeans and a sym-leather jacket.
Background
Bryce Fairfax was born in 2024 in Seattle. Father died when he was 9, and his mother (Alison) and older brother (Connor) were left raising the family. From a young age, Bryce knew that he wanted to help people, and started volunteering at the local hospital when he was 15. He discovered that he had the magical ability to heal people, and cemented his career choice. He kept his ability secret at first, afraid that it was something wrong or unnatural. He still doesn't advertise his ability unless he has to.
He eventually went to school back East at MIT&M as a pre-med student, and developed his skills, both magic and scientific, further. When he graduated, he came back to Seattle for med-school/residency to help his mother (who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's or some other degerative disease). During his residency, he took a special interest in forensic pathology as a way to help those that could no longer help themselves. At 25, he started working at a local clinic in one of the rougher areas of Seattle.
Six months ago, his brother Connor disappeared mysteriously, leaving Bryce with the sole responsibility of supporting the family. The financial strains quickly drained his cash reserves, and he's turned to shadowrunning to make ends meet, and to find out what happened to Connor. He still works at the hospital morgue and at the clinic whenever possible.
Notable NPCs
- Katherine "Katy" Fairfax - younger sister, age 20, born after her father died, aspiring actress currently unsuccessful. Bryce secretly subsidizes her rent, so she doesn't have to live in a dangerous neighborhood.
- Adam Fairfax - older brother, age 32, got into gangs after his father died, has been slowly working his way up the ranks, possibly involved with one of the organized crime groups. Black sheep of the family, Bryce doesn't approve, but has still helped him out of a few scrapes, and will probably continue to do so.
- Connor Fairfax - eldest brother, age 36, worked for Lone Star as a detective until his disappearance 6 months ago. Bryce idolizes Connor, who had taken over the parenting role after the death of their father. Bryce is struggling to support Connor's wife (Lisa) and son (Garrett, age 6). Connor's partner Jason (q.v.) also helps, when he can.
- Alison Fairfax - Mother, age 55, suffering from Alzheimer's and is currently hospitalized. Bryce pays all the non-covered hospital bills.
- Victor Sanders - college roommate, computer whiz, best friend - currently working for Renraku at the Arcology. Has rather prurient tastes, and likes to spend his money on women?
- Jason Antonelli - Connor's partner at Lone Star, still investigating Connor's disappearance (despite the fact that the official investigation was closed 4 months ago). Has been good friends with the Fairfax family from childhood, and still a good friend of Bryce.
- Jerusa Paeva - Head of the ER at Redmond general, human female age 57, mentor and friend.
Personality
I see Bryce as an investigator, scientific, supportive, a little unaccustomed to the illegal lifestyle and still unwilling to go very far over the line. His magical abilities are almost exclusively healing and detection, and I'm using the Mouse totem as a template for a more oriental/alternative medicine type approach, kind of a blend between Taoism and Acupuncture. He has lots of contacts, Victor and Jason primarily, but with lots of other friends and allies made either in law enforcement, through the clinic, or through his ongoing magical studies.
Likes rock-climbing in his free time.
