Disturbing Dreams
I’m not sure why, but I’ve had a higher than usual concentration of nightmares in the last week or two. They all seem to have similar elements, which may indicate some deep-seeded psychological issue (or it might just be coincidence).
The first one starts with me waking up in bed. I can hear a noise in the apartment, and I half sit up to see. Not seeing anything, I dismiss it as nothing, and roll back over before hearing another sound. This time there is a shadowy figure standing in the doorway, with light glinting off a large knife in its hand. The figure approaches, raises the knife, and plunges it into my chest. The freaky part is that I don’t wake up immediately - I just lie there, staring at the knife impaling my lungs, gasping desperately for air, and watching the blood gush out of the wound. After what seems like a very long time, my breathing becomes more and more labored, and I finally wake up with my heart pounding a mile a minute.
The second also involves waking up in bed, but this time my bed is still unfinished, and I see a group of black scorpions crawling on the bookshelves. I’m just about to jump out of bed to go grab some bug-spray or a broom or something, before I see a large (about the size of my hand) scorpion sitting on my chest. I freeze, hoping not to disturb it, and it seems to be working after a minute or so. But then the scorpion suddenly and without warning stings me, paralyzing me immediately. I can feel the poison course through my veins like liquid fire, spreading everywhere. I somehow know that I can survive one sting, but immediately after thinking that thought, the remaining scorpions climb down onto me, and they and the “boss scorpion” all start stinging me repeatedly. My breathing gets more and more difficult, and the sharp pains of the stings grow more unbearable before I wake up gasping for air.
In the last, I wake up high above the ground, gliding along on currents of air, floating lazily. After a few minutes of pleasant flight, my gliding ability vanishes suddenly, and I plummet toward the ground. Hearing the wind roaring in my ears, I desperately try to increase my drag coefficient to slow my descent, but the ground looms inexorably before me. I close my eyes tightly, flinching from the impact, and knowing somehow that I’ll wake up just before I hit the ground. Unfortunately, I’m wrong in that regard, as I hit the ground with a sickening crunch, and look down to find my entire body mangled beyond any recognition. I can feel the broken ribs stabbing into my lungs and heart, and my vision is blurred by blood from dozens of cuts and scrapes. I try unsuccessfully to move, before coughing up blood and sending my body into agonizing convulsions. I struggle to continue drawing breath, with no help in sight, before waking up.
It’s almost definitely nothing, but it is starting to freak me out a little…

Could be your subconscious trying to make you aware of sleep apnea or similar…
