Signs you’re getting old…

I’ve had a couple really weird memory lapses the last few weeks.

The first case was a mere mental slip. I live close to work, so most days I just walk. Saves gas, good exercise. All good. Last Thursday night, I caught the baking bug, baked 3 batches of cookies, and decided to bring them to work. Since I didn’t want to have to carry them, I drove into work. The cookies went over exceeding well, and I went home that evening and all was right with the world. I remember being really glad I left a little early, because it started raining really hard moments before I got home.

The following morning, I decided to run some errands to collect supplies for some of my projects and walked out to the garage. The truck was gone. After several heart pounding moments thinking it had been stolen, I realized that I had walked home from work, leaving the truck in the parking lot. <rolls eyes, smacks forehead>

In the second case, I managed to lose my leatherman micra. This tool goes with me everywhere. I noticed it was missing while I was at work, and thought I might have left it at home. When I got home, I looked everywhere for it, but it eluded capture. I finally remembered that I had taken it off the key ring to cut open a box early that morning in someone else’s office. I went to sleep, content in the knowledge that it was probably there, and I could recover it in the morning. I got to work, settled in and took care of a few issues, and was just about ready to head upstairs to ask if he’d seen my micra. Then I noticed that it was on my key-chain.

!?!?!?

How it got there I’ll never know. It’s possible I never actually lost it, and I imagined the whole thing. I suppose it’s also possible that I found it somewhere along the line, and my brain just didn’t register the fact. In either case, there is something seriously wrong with my brain.
